Training Videos
Learn each step of a Lean Six Sigma project right where you do it.
What It Is
The Lean Six Sigma w/ Training Videos template sets up a full DMAIC project with training built in. It includes 36 Lean Six Sigma lessons, about 25 hours of video for Yellow, Green, and Black Belts. Each lesson is attached to the to-do where you use it, so you watch how to build a SIPOC on the to-do where you build yours.
SixGrid is project management software, not a course platform. The template gives Belts the training at the moment they need it, while the project itself moves forward in SixGrid.
Starting a Project With Training Videos
On a new project, open the To-dos tab and choose Lean Six Sigma w/ Training Videos from the methodology picker. You can also add it to an existing project with + Apply another methodology at the bottom of the phase navigator.
The template has 11 milestones and 77 to-dos, with due dates spanning about 64 days from the project start:
- Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control phases, each followed by a tollgate review
- a Close milestone at the end
Each phase opens with a Learn to-do (for example, Learn: Measure Phase) that introduces the phase. Each phase ends with a Prepare tollgate review to-do that walks you through getting ready for the gate.
Like every template, it's a copy. Once applied, the milestones and to-dos belong to your project, and you can edit, add, or delete them. See Projects.
Lessons on To-dos
A to-do with a lesson shows a small chip next to its due date:
- ▶ 52 min: the lesson's length. Click it to open the lesson.
- ▶ from 21:49: the video opens at the section that matters for this to-do. The lesson shows which section starts there.
- ✓ Watched: you've watched it.
Clicking the chip opens the lesson under the to-do. Each lesson shows:
- its code and title
- its Belt level
- its length and the software it uses
The video plays right there, with English captions on every lesson. Hide lesson closes it.
The Belt level tells you who the lesson is for:
- All belts: core lessons for everyone, Yellow Belt and up
- Green & Black Belt: the analysis lessons
- Black Belt: advanced topics such as designed experiments
Watch what your project needs. Nothing stops a Green Belt from watching a Black Belt lesson.
In SixGrid Notes
The course was recorded before SixGrid, so some videos hand you a spreadsheet or a slide for something SixGrid already does. When that happens, an In SixGrid note under the video tells you where it lives here, with a link to it. The Charter, the COPQ card on the Financials tab, and the Final Report are examples.
Files
Many lessons come with files to download. Each file is tagged:
- Template: a blank working template. Fill it in, then attach it to the to-do so it stays with the project.
- Example: a finished example from the video.
- Practice data: the data set used in the video, so you can follow along.
Click a file's name to download it. The files are Excel workbooks. The analysis lessons are taught with SigmaXL, an Excel add-in.
Watched
Pressing play marks a lesson watched. You can also check or uncheck Mark as watched yourself.
Watched marks are personal. Yours are yours, and your teammates see their own. They're also kept per to-do: if the same lesson appears on two to-dos, each to-do keeps its own mark.
Who Can Watch
Anyone who can open the project can watch its lessons and download its files. Videos play inside SixGrid only. They can't be downloaded or played on other sites.
Making Your Own Version
Owners and Admins can clone Lean Six Sigma w/ Training Videos in Settings, Templates to make a version for their organization. The lessons stay on their to-dos, and each to-do in the builder shows how many lessons it includes. You can rename, reorder, add, and remove to-dos and milestones. Removing a to-do removes its lessons with it. The builder doesn't add lessons to to-dos or move them. See Custom Templates.
For Training Providers
If you train Belts from several client companies in one SixGrid account, give each client its own group so their projects stay separate. See People & Groups. Leave Project Ideas turned off, because ideas are shared across the whole organization rather than kept within groups. See Project Ideas.
