Project Ideas
Your organization's idea pipeline, sized by opportunity, on one screen.
What It Is
Project Ideas is an optional, organization-wide view of every project at Idea status, across all groups. Each idea shows its COPQ, and the total COPQ sitting in ideas appears at the top of the page. It answers one question: "how much opportunity have we identified that isn't being worked yet?"
Ideas carry categories too — each row shows its category as a colored chip, and category filter pills sit above the list. The COPQ total follows the filter, so you can size the opportunity waiting in Safety ideas as easily as in the whole pipeline.
Turning It On
Owners and Admins turn the feature on at Settings, Projects. It's off by default. When it's on, Project Ideas appears in the sidebar for everyone in the organization.
How to Add an Idea
Click Submit an idea at the top of the Project Ideas page. It opens the normal create-project flow with the status already set to Idea — there's no separate intake form to learn. Creating a project in your group and leaving its status as Idea does exactly the same thing; the button is just the shortcut. Either way, the idea appears in Project Ideas automatically, and its COPQ — set on the project's Financials tab — shows alongside it.
What You Can and Can't Do There
When Project Ideas is on, every idea on the page is clickable — for everyone, across every group. Opening an idea shows the whole pitch, read-only: the charter, description, files, and COPQ. Editing hasn't changed — an idea is still edited by its submitter, its group, and the roles that already have edit access. An idea has a submitter, not a Project Leader — a leader is assigned when the idea is activated, which is why the lead field is empty while a project is still an idea.
Moving an Idea Into Action
Open the idea and click Activate project. Three steps: choose the group that will do the work, name the required Project Leader from that group's members, and confirm — with an optional category along the way. You can activate an idea into any group where you could create a project; for most people, that's your own group. (Changing an idea's status to Active in its project settings opens the same wizard.)
On confirm, the project becomes Active, moves to the chosen group, and leaves Project Ideas — it starts counting as Active on the Program view. The submitter is notified automatically, in-app and by email, with which group their idea landed in and who's leading it. There's no approval step; activation is the decision.
Picking Up Another Group's Idea
An idea doesn't have to be activated by the group that submitted it. If an idea from another group fits work your group should be doing, activate it into your group — that's the point of the org-wide view. Once it's Active, normal group visibility applies again.
A Note on COPQ Here
Project Ideas shows COPQ in both financial models — even if your organization uses full accounting. Sizing ideas by the opportunity they target is useful no matter how you account for finished projects.
